The Inland Empire Quilters Guild believes that Friendship Groups are a vital part of quilting tradition. In days of old women would meet at one quilters home and quilt, visit and create memories. Those of us fortunate to be a member of a friendship group can attest to others what a valuable experience it is to be part of such a great tradition. A friendship group can be made up of four to ten quilters who meet at a central location for all members on set times a day. This can be bimonthly, monthly or even weekly. Each friendship group decides what works for all members. As a part of a friendship group, it enables members to work on individual project or to participate in a group project. In most cases, the group projects are created for a charity in mind. Other activities can include exchange of blocks or fabrics, becoming involved in a challenge project either set by the guild or an outside entity such as the Hoffman Challenge. Friendship groups may participate in local quilt runs and setup a carpool for such events. Many friendship groups love to attend Quilt shows together. This is a great way to meet and get to know other guild members as well as share ideas and techniques. These are just some of the benefits that you as a new or old quilter can expect to earn as a member of a friendship group.
