IEQG Welcome to Inland Empire Quilters Guild website. We hope you will take the time to go through our website and see how much fun we love to have.
Presidents Message January 2012 Happy New Year Quilters!
Wow…..can it actually be 2012 already?!! I think that the last year simply flew by. I had a box of Christmas ribbons from 2010 - down on a shelf in my garage – fully intending on rolling them back on their spools and before I knew it Christmas was upon us and I needed them again for wrapping presents. Well… my first New Year’s Resolution was to wind them back on their spools and put them away! I am happy to report that I did accomplish this task! Now if I could only quilt the boat-load of quilt tops I have stored in my sewing room I would be in good shape!
Speaking of New Year’s Resolutions…..We would like for all of you to think of a 2012 Quilting Resolution that you would like to make! This could be something that you would like to learn – for instance – machine or hand appliqué, or maybe you are like me and have several quilt tops to finish off! We will be writing these resolutions down at our Jan. 9th meeting and then we will share them. You never know – someone else’s resolution may just inspire you as well! Also to bring in the New Year – we are going to play a fun little Fat Quarter game. We are asking you to bring three black and white print fat quarters to the Jan. 9th meeting. The fabric should be black with white printed designs or white with black printed designs (please do not bring solids!) Remember to bring quilt shop quality fabric.
My very good friend Catherine Redford will be in town visiting from Illinois - just in time for Road to California and will be our speaker at the Jan. 23rd. meeting. I am sure she will be very entertaining! Catherine is originally from England and is an accomplished quilt artist. She will be speaking about flower quilts. If you would like to see some of her work you can visit her web site at www.catherineredford.com . You are all invited to visit with Catherine at the Sizzler restaurant located on Magnolia and Rimpau Avenues – 5pm prior to the guild meeting.
Feb. 13th will be our annual Valentine’s party! Once again we will be sharing Valentines with our quilting friends! If you would like to participate – please sign up at the Jan. 9th or Jan. 23rd meetings. We will tell you at the Jan. 23rd meeting as to how many Valentines to bring. Included in the valentine you will need to put one 5” charm square. This year we are asking for red and white charm squares. These fabrics can be print or solid – but only red and white. Once again – we do ask that these fabrics be quality fabric. Maybe we will inspire some beautiful redwork creations out of this project! I am sure that this coming year is going to fly by as quickly as the last and before we know it we will be having elections for new officers and committee chairs. Please think about getting involved by considering one of these positions. If you are new to the guild it is a wonderful way to connect with our members. Six years ago I was a new member and knew absolutely no one. I can now say that I have made many wonderful friends and it all happened by being brave enough to step out to take a chance…and that - honestly is so unlike me!
